Week 1 Review (AFC South)

Post by Crimsion on Tue Oct 23, 2012 12:48 pm

If the 2013-2014 season is anything like last year for the teams in the AFC South we should be looking at a neck and neck race towards the top. In his first year in the big leagues Rookie Quarterback, Andrew Luck was able to lead his Colts team to a AFC South division title. The race was a close one but within the closing weeks the Colts were able to squeak through and make a post-season appearance. That was last year and teams are given another shot at success as the 2013-2014 season kicks off.

Tebow Too Soon?
(0-0) Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans (0-0)

Keeping up with the legacy left by a future Hall of Fame Quarterback would be a tough thing to do but in his second year, Andrew Luck looks as if he is as ready as he will ever be. On the other side of the ball it seems as if the Tennessee Titans may be facing a little bit of an identity crisis. A dual Quarterback combo may be successful in some cases but here in Tennessee it hasn't gotten off on the right foot and with Tim Tebow being apart of that we will have to wait and see how long the fans will keep quiet before demanding that it be his time. The combo of Tebow and Locker combined for a total of 3 interceptions, luckily running back, Chris Johnson was able to keep the Titans afloat until the very end. In a close contest the "Luck"y Colts were able to pull out a 45-38 victory.

Top Performers

QB (IND) - Andrew Luck - 360 Yards, 4 Touchdowns, 1 Interception
HB (TEN) - Chris Johnson - 19 Carries, 102 Yards (5.4 Avg), 1 Touchdown
TE (IND) - Coby Fleener - 6 Receptions, 83 Yards, 2 Touchdowns
QR (IND) - Gren Jennings - 3 Receptions, 92 Yards, 1 Touchdown
CB (IND) - DeAndre' Poole - 1 Tackle, 1 Interception

(1-0) / Next Week: Vs Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)

(0-1) / Next Week: Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0)

40.1 For The Win
(0-0) Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)

When Joe Flacco hit the free agent's market this off-season there were a handful of teams looking to acquire his services. In the end the 5th year Quarterback out of Delaware decided to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. Flacco was given the keys to the offense and the fans in KC were ecstatic for his debut. Alongside Flacco, Rookie Quarterback Caleb Brenton was also making a debut of his own. It was a battle of defenses as both of these Quarterbacks were unable to get anything going through the air. Jamaal Charles and Michael Egnew gave life to the Kansas City offense but it was the Jaguars defense that wrapped this game up. Both Flacco and Brenton finished with ratings under 50 as the Jaguars limp away with a 13-10 victory.

Top Performers

HB (KC) - Jamaal Charles - 16 Carries, 92 Yards (5.8 Avg), 1 Touchdown
TE (KC) - Michael Egnew - 6 Receptions, 121 Yards

SS (JAX) - Dawan Landry - 6 Tackles, 2 Interceptions
DT (JAX) - Terrance Knighton - 4 Tackles, 2 Sacks

(1-0) / Next Week: @ Cleveland Browns (1-0)

Sweet Dreams Prince Shaub
(0-0) Houston Texans @ Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0)

Last season was a tough one to swallow for the Houston Texans as they were unable to make it to the post season and were looking for answers. Still packing an explosive offense and one of the leagues best defense, the Texans just were not themselves to kick off this season when they faced off against Big Ben and company. Texans Quarterback, Matt Schaub spent a good chunk of his day on the turf as the Steelers possessed a solid pass rush this week, recording three sacks on the day. Not only was Schaub sporting grass in his helmet, he also recorded on the the leagues worst QB ratings (14.9) as the Texans fell to the Steelers by a score of 27-3.

Top Performers

QB (PIT) - Ben Roethlisberger - 9/19, 163 Yards, 1 Touchdown
HB (PIT) - Rashard Mendenhall - 15 Attempts, 109 Yards (7.3 Avg), 1 Touchdown
WR (PIT) - Antonio Brown - 4 Receptions, 109 Yards, 1 Touchdown
OLB (PIT) - LaMarr Woodley - 3 Tackles, 2 Sacks

WR (HOU) - Andre Johnson - 4 Receptions, 67 Yards

(1-0) / Next Week: @ Carolina Panthers (1-0)
