Week 2 Review (AFC South)

Post by Crimsion on Thu Oct 25, 2012 10:18 pm

With the Colts and Jaguars being the only two teams in the AFC South who kicked their season off with a win, more of the same was expected from young gun quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and Caleb Brenton. Even though he posted a 40.1 quarterback rating last week, Brenton was expected to take the field and excel. Both up and comers were tested this week against some of the top competition in the AFC.

The Grass Is Always Greener In Indy
(1-0) Indianapolis Colts vs Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)

Coming off of a 4 touchdown performance against the Tennessee Titans last week Colts quarterback, Andrew Luck was looking to take his success into week 2 against the Bengals. With their backs against the wall, down 38-21 at the half the Colts looked to pick it up in the second half. Andrew Luck and the Colts offense kicked it into another gear but the Bengals offense didn't take a step back. As they stayed level headed despite being outscored 24-17 in the second half, the Bengals were able to record their first win of the season by a score of 55-45.

Top Performers

QB (IND) - Andrew Luck - 331 Yards, 4 Touchdowns, 4 Interceptions
HB (IND) - Roderick Smith - 14 Carries, 149 Yards (10.6 Avg), 2 Touchdowns, 1 Fumble / 5 Receptions, 117 Yards, 2 Touchdowns
TE (IND) - Coby Fleener - 6 Receptions, 75 Yards, 1 Touchdown
WR (IND) - Reggie Wayne - 4 Receptions, 77 Yards, 1 Touchdown

QB (CIN) - Andy Dalton - 425 Yards. 4 Touchdowns, 3 Interceptions
WR (CIN) - A.J. Green - 10 Receptions, 193 Yards, 1 Touchdown
SS (CIN) - Mohammad Mata - 4 Tackles, 3 Interceptions

(1-1) / Next Week: Vs Houston Texans (0-2)

Blackmon Is Back At It
(1-0) Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cleveland Browns (1-0)

Rookie Quarterback, Caleb Brenton was lucky enough to pull out a win over the Kansas City Chiefs last week in his NFL debut. Hungry than last week, Brenton was looking to get the Jaguars off to a quick start this season. Trailing behnid the Browns 14-6 at the half, with no thanks to Brenton who had yet to throw a TD pass on the season, the Jaguars weren't looking good. A tough 3rd & 4th quarter had the Browns in a hole, up by only 4 during the dying minutes of the 4th. Brenton was able to show the Jaguars just exactly what he could do as he was able to drive down the field and find Blackmon in the endzone to give the Jaguars a 27-24 lead and the win.

Top Performers

HB (JAX) - Maurice Jones-Drew - 20 Carries, 115 Yards (5.8 Avg)
WR (JAX) - Justin Blackmon - 7 Receptions, 109 Yards, 1 Touchdown

HB (CLE) - Trent Richardson - 14 Carries, 138 Yards (9.9 Avg), 2 Touchdowns
FS (CLE) - Larry Lockett - 7 Tackles
LE (CLE) - Jabaal Sheard - 3 Tackles, 2 Sacks

(2-0) / Next Week: Vs Baltimore Ravens (0-2)

Dude, where’s our offense?
(0-1) Houston Texans @ Carolina Panthers (1-0)

If taking a beating from the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the Houston Texans looked to get back on track against the Carolina Panthers. For the second straight week the Texans offensive line caused some problems for Quarterback, Matt Schaub. Carolina’s pass rush was able to take Schaub down 3 times on the night along with picking off 2 of his pass attempts. With the keys to the offense on still at the dealership ether Schaub or Foster need to pick those bad boys up and get this car going.

Top Performers

HB (CAR) – Kyle Timothy – 7 Carries, 41 Yards, 1 Touchdown
LE (CAR) – Greg Hardy – 4 Tackles, 2 Sacks
MLB (CAR) Jon Beason – 5 Tackles, 1 Interception

TE (HOU) – Owen Daniels – 3 Receptions, 51 Yards, 1 Touchdown

(0-2) / Next Week: Vs Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

Who said 2 Quarterbacks are better than one?
(0-1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Tennessee Titans (0-1)

The dual-quarterback experiment continues on in the land of the Titans as both Jake Locker and Tim Tebow lined up under center this week against the Buccaneers. Luckily for the Titans only one-half of this duo turned the ball over this week in yet another week effort by both Quarterbacks. Unable to get things going on the offensive side of the ball and with Bucs Quarterback, Josh Freeman on point this week the Titans found themselves in the loss column yet again by a score of 24-6.

Top Performers

QB (TB) – Josh Freeman – 8/14, 231 Yards, 2 Touchdowns
HB (TB) – Doug Martin – 2 Receptions, 80 Yards, 1 Touchdown
RE (TB) – Adrian Clayborn – 2 Tackles, 2 Sacks

HB (TEN) – Chris Johnson – 16 Carries, 76 Yards (4.8 Avg)
LE (TEN) – 3 Tackles, 2 Sacks

(0-2) / Next Week: @ Cincinnati Bengals (1-1)
